"The word of God is the greatest, most necessary, most important thing in Christendom. Without the external Word we would not know one spirit from another...Let the man who would hear God speak, read Holy Scripture." - Martin Luther

My Morning Devotional...

For the past couple of weeks I have been reading through Calvin's Institutes, Book III: THE WAY IN WHICH WE RECEIVE THE GRACE OF CHRIST: WHAT BENEFITS COME TO US FROM IT, AND WHAT EFFECTS FOLLOW.
I am working my way through chapter 2: FAITH: ITS DEFINITION SET FORTH AND ITS PROPERTIES EXPLAINED.
I came across this in section 15...and O how close to home it is!

"For unbelief is so deeply rooted in our hearts, and we are so inclined to it, that not without hard struggle is each one able to persuade himself of what we all confess with the mouth: namely, that God is faithful. Especially when it comes to reality itself, every man's wavering uncovers hidden weakness...Surely, as often as God commends His word to us, He indirectly rebukes us for our unbelief, for He has no other intention than to uproot perverse doubts from our hearts"

Chew on that for a while...for so precious few speak like this today!
PS: C.S. Lewis speaks of a truth on the side-bar to the right ;)
