"The word of God is the greatest, most necessary, most important thing in Christendom. Without the external Word we would not know one spirit from another...Let the man who would hear God speak, read Holy Scripture." - Martin Luther

A Hidden Side of Jesus...

We all have our personal perceptions of Jesus that appeal to our biases. I came across this passage while reading through the Gopsel of Matthew. Here are comments about Jesus by His cousin, John the baptist:

Mat 3:11,12 "I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire."

What strikes me is that this is no picture of a little baby Jesus, wrapped in proverbial swaddling clothes, lying helplessly, all cutsy-wootsy, in a manger! No, He is Lord...and He will demonstrate it! This passage commands you and I, to wake up, sit up(rather, bow down), and listen!
Here's the list:
1. Jesus is mightier than John!
2. John, you and I are not worthy to carry His sandals!
3. Jesus will baptize you with the Holy Spirit...AND WITH FIRE!
4. His winnowing fork is in His hand! (Do you know what that means?)
5. He will clear His threshing floor! (no if's, and's or but's!)
6. He will gather His wheat into His barn! (SHOUT FOR JOY FOR HIS MERCY!)
7. He WILL burn the chaff with UNQUENCHABLE fire! (Beware if He's not your soul's Delight)

WOW, let's bow down today and give Him His due and shower Him with glad adoration for taking the wrath of God upon Himself and forgiving all our sin in order to bring us into THE thrill of a lifetime (and more) in the knowledge and enjoyment of God Himself!!!

DAO,

One of my favorite lines from the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is when Mr. Beaver describes Aslan saying, ''Is he safe?...No, of course he's not safe! But he is good!"

A "safe" God is no God at all!

Good thoughts, Danny.

Another picture of Jesus that must be revised is Jesus as the Good Shepherd. Many are probably familiar with that smiling confident Jesus in Shepherd's garb peacefully embracing a defenseless lamb in one hand and holding a nice little shepherd staff in the other.

But what we need to see is that Jesus is the Shepherd-King. He not only provides for the needs of the sheep, he has been commissioned to drive out the enemies and the wolves in order to protect the flock.

He protects and rules with a rod of iron. In fact as the shepherd-king he will crush the nations according to the authority granted him by the Father to do so (Rev. 2:27).

P.S.>>> I don't know if you remember me but this is Joe Brancaleone out in Orange County. Long time no talk!

blessings,
