"The word of God is the greatest, most necessary, most important thing in Christendom. Without the external Word we would not know one spirit from another...Let the man who would hear God speak, read Holy Scripture." - Martin Luther

Command, Promise...or Both?

Mar 12:30, 31 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength…You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

10 Absolutes about God, Law and Promise

1. The absoluteness of God, He exists, never changes, isn’t going away. He just is!

2. The absoluteness of God’s command to love Him and man (perfectly).

3. The absoluteness of my NOT perfectly loving God and man.

4. The absoluteness of God’s righteous judgment toward my sin.

5. The absoluteness of Christ’s perfect love toward God and man, seen in His sinless life of perfect, complete obedience in every way: thought, intent, motive, desire and action…upward to God and outward to man.

6. The absoluteness of what Christ has done for me, in His life, death and resurrection, because I do not perfectly love God or man.

7. The absoluteness of the certainty of faith, that Jesus Christ has taken ALL of my sin of not loving God and man as God commands…and on top of that, the certainty of faith, that Jesus Christ has given me His absolute, perfect love for God and man.

8. The absoluteness of what God has commanded, Jesus Christ has fulfilled for and in me. Here, because of faith, God’s law has become God’s promise, so when one is born again, for the first time in their entire life they taste what it is to love God supremely! This has a significant impact on how one now treats his fellow man.

9. The absoluteness of what kind of love for God and man God will work in the life of the believer, degree by degree. (1 Cor 13.4-7)

10. The absoluteness of the final fulfillment of the promise of God. This is the ultimate and eternal experience of the believer…they shall, for ever and ever, perfectly love God with all their heart mind soul and strength and they will love their neighbor as themselves! Here, there will be no relative love…but absolute, perfect, sinless love and worship to God and brotherly love, man to man!

Jesus Christ said: You shall love the Lord your God...and man. This shall come to pass, for He is no liar! This is forever and ever! This is true! This is mind-blowing!

Great post Danny. How often we "dumb down" the awesomeness of this absolute and perfect command and thus miss the vastness of saving grace and the wonder of transforming grace and the excitement and hope of future grace!
You go bro!
